Christian book store x2
As some of my longer term readers may know I read the blog ’supermarket monkey‘ One of the reasons I started reading this blog was his experience going for a Job in a ’Christian book store’ in Melbourne in which the policy was and maybe still is that males be clean shaven. ‘Urban monk; had a beard. I found it quite hypercritical considering Jesus is depicted with a beard.
Well, as it happens, I received an email from said Christian retail giant yesterday, asking if I would be interested in discussing a position at the city store. Theres that ambivalence again… I agreed to an interview. My activity obligations with Centrelink compel me… like the love of Christ… to attend. So I see this as a unique opportunity. I cant really see myself as being a very good candidate for the position. I have friends after all, who have protested in that very bookstore about products sold there being made in sweat shops in Asia. I still have my beard, though in a slightly modified form, and I have no intention of shaving it off. I still have my finely honed rage against consumerism. And have cultivated a distinct distaste for much Christian “literature” and culture. And well… it doesnt look good does it? But how should I approach this rather unique job interview? I intend to be as much as possible, fully myself, and see how they respond to that person. Should be interesting…
I’m looking forward to the coming posts…
