Jasons Smiths take on the Vineyard being emergent:
Jason Smiths the senior minister from Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Curtis, NE, describes his take on the Vinyeard being Emergent.
The Vineyard as a Movement is trying to re-define itself right now. Some of those realignments harmonize with Emergent. Because Emergent is so difficult to define no movement will be able to say “we are 100% emergent.” Here’s how I think the Vineyard harmonizes with Emergent.
He has some good points most of which I would agree with. The section
“McLaren wrote a book titled The Secret Message of Jesus. The secret is, The Kingdom of God is at hand. Hmmm…If the Kingdom is already not yet, then the implications are many. For McLaren, Everything Must Change. For Wimber, “when do we get to do the stuff Jesus did?”.
I actually think that Mclaren would agree with Ladd. That what he means by ‘at hand’ is the fullness of the kingdom is at hand. That the ‘Stuff’ for Mclaren would be more along the lines of social justice, rather than ‘power healing’
