Center for Public Christianity
An interesting site has sprung up in Australia, and has been opened by Kevin Rudd. The Center for Public Christianity.
“Congratulations on the launch of the Centre for Public Christianity.
The Centre’s establishment is a welcome development in the spiritual and intellectual life of Australia. It has the potential to make a valuable contribution to public debate in Australia - in promoting a better understanding of Christian faith in the wider community, as well as promoting greater engagement with public life and culture by Australian Christians.”
some of the Aims are:
- seeks to be a benchmark for Christian thinking and communication in Australia and beyond
- offers free vodcast/podcast comment, lectures and interviews, and other web-based resources
- produces a range of popular and academic works exploring the relevance of the Christian faith
- is a one stop shop for media outlets in search of informed and independent Christian comment
- runs events and short courses for the curious and sceptical alike
- supports a network of Christian scholars and research projects across the disciplines
- serves as a speakers bureau and training facility for Christian thinkers and communicators
There is also a blog which I will RSS.
I think the whole idea of independence is really great. Its especially good when some “prophet” says something nutty you can point people in the right direction, like this web site. The Australian Christian lobby also does a good job of this, but is more of a political organization.
I’ll read the blog and see what pops up…
(HT to Mark Connors blog for putting me on to this)
